Hey ShootProof Team!

I’ve been trying to connect with someone to get answers regarding some of my issues with the ShootProof platform. There are things I LOVE about ShootProof (the fact that you’re the ONLY platform I could find that integrates with my local lab - Technicare, for one). However, there are two major frustrations I’ve had working with ShootProof and waiting longer than a year for answers and changes to be made for those of us not based in the US is making me wonder if sticking with ShootProof is right for my business. Having the lab integration is nice, but it comes second to my payment functions as this affects my transactions with EVERY client (not just the few who choose to order prints through the gallery).

My first issue (as discussed in the ideas forum) is the lack of payment integrations for international customers. We want Stripe or Square. We need options. We want something other than PayPal/BrainTree. We need something that’s more user friendly, has better customer support, and has faster payout periods.

My second issue is the lack of tip options on Invoices. If I invoiced through ShootProof, I would be losing the extra income I receive via tips on my other payment platform.

These two concerns combined is why I haven’t been using ShootProof for Invoicing. It would be ideal to have invoices and contracts linked and all on one platform, but I’ve been with ShootProof for almost a year, and am still waiting on updates and responses to these questions - both of which predated my subscription to ShootProof. Every time I’ve inquired (in the Community or directly through Customer Service), I’ve been told that this is great feedback, will be directed to the production team for review, and will be open to voting in the community… but then nothing happens. There are no updates. There is no movement (that we can see from a customer perspective).

How many upvotes does an idea require for ShootProof’s team to take requests seriously and start working on development? The specific tipping idea has nearly 700 upvotes and we’re still all waiting… wanting to know if this is going to move forward.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Karissa!

Thank you for your post - as an international photographer myself, I can totally understand and relate to what you are saying. I wish I could provide you with a more specific response other than what you have already been given - the voting DOES help as it allows us to bring the most asked for features to our product development team’s attention where it can then be discussed and explored openly.

I also appreciate that from a user perspective, it can feel like there is no progress made or nothing happening with particular feature requests - the reality however is that the team are working on LOTS of things behind the scenes, and everything takes a lot longer to go through the process for release than you would probably think. The last year has had a focus on our new Print Store, and the introduction of Shootproof Pay - two huge additions for Shootproof users.

This could potentially pave the way for further introduction of different payment methods such as stripe, or the ability for clients to leave tips - both of these ideas have been discussed by the team only just recently. I cannot speak for the team as a whole, but they are sure to be setting objectives and goals for 2022 - and I am excited to hear what future updates are on the horizon for this year.

As soon as I have ANY updates on these particular feature requests, I promise to report back - it’s something I would love to have also! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, @Edel ! I really do appreciate it.

I understand that backend development takes time and is a large team effort. I think where a lot of my frustration stems from is, as you’ve mentioned, there have been some BIG improvements last year… but only for US based customers. As an international customer, I can’t integrate the print store (unless I missed something, but when I checked my dashboard, I don’t have the option) and I also don’t have access to ShootProof pay. So while these were huge time-consuming updates in 2021… a large number of us don’t even get to use them. Then there was the Black Friday issue, where again - international customers didn’t receive any promotions. We were told promotions were coming in the next few weeks… but we’re still waiting.

It honestly just feels like ShootProof is ideal if you’re in the US, but I’m beginning to wonder if I should start looking elsewhere. It’s disappointing, because there is a lot I love about ShootProof - but many of these aspects are standard on other platforms as well. The few things I’ve struggled with on ShootProof have actually been adding to my workload instead of allowing me to #FocusOnWhatMattersMost.

I completely understand and appreciate your comments @KarissaJohnson  - you’re right in that the major developments in 2021 have so far served to benefit US customers only. I feel that frustration as I would love to utilise the print store with my clients also! I’ve put these questions to Shootproof management, and they’ve been very clear to reassure me that they absolutely value their international customers and don’t wish for them to feel excluded. The print store and Shootproof Pay release has several stages, and it makes sense for the initial stage to launch for US customers first so that they can track usage, make amendments and adaptations before moving on to updates and further releases - the print store as it currently stands wouldn’t be of benefit to international photographers as the shipping costs for products from the US (where the print store is linked) would be too high. I’m confident that as these features are built out further, consideration of how to potentially implement them across international users will be taken into account also.

Re. the Black Friday deals, I’ve also spoken to management recently on this and they’ve confirmed that they are in planning stage to offer something to international customers - I appreciate this has been delayed which I apologise for - but stay tuned for updates once they are set in stone… I have always got our international customers in mind when I ask these questions, and I am always relieved to find that our Shootproof leaders also have international users built into future planning, albeit not always at the initial launch stage of new features.

I hope this year allows me to bring lots of positive updates to you and our international photographers - you are valued and the team are passionate about making Shootproof the best it can be for ALL customers. Watch this space!
